Runaway, Homeless & At-Risk Youth
Project Safe Place is a partnership with the business community and The Children’s Center, Inc. which is licensed by the National Safe Place Network to provide Safe Place sites in areas served by The Children’s Center, Inc. The sites serve runaway and homeless youth and youth at risk for abuse, abandonment, neglect, and exploitation with locations to seek crisis support.

- Beaumont – The Golden Triangle
Includes Orange, Jefferson and Hardin Counties
- Harris County East
- Harris County West
- Houston Metro Region
Includes Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Harris, Liberty, Matagorda, Walker, Waller and Wharton Counties
- Galveston Bay Region
Includes Galveston, Galveston County, and Pasadena in Lower Harris County
- Corpus Christi – Coastal Bend
Includes Nueces, Kleberg, San Patricio and Aransas Counties
- Victoria – The Golden Crescent
Includes Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria Counties
- Rio Grande Valley Region
Includes Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr and Willacy Counties
Safe Place sites include businesses such as convenience stores with trained staff to respond to youth seeking help by immediate contact of The Children’s Center, Inc. Crisis Response Team. The team will travel to the Safe Place site and determine the most appropriate next steps that may include contacts with child welfare, law enforcement, with parents or guardians, or to offices for care coordination that may include emergency shelter or other options, depending on youth’s presenting needs. Community groups including civic groups, churches, schools, and agencies are provided ongoing outreach and training to familiarize the public with these resources.
Runaway and Homeless Youth Programs in Texas are supported by funding from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Federal Youth Services Bureau, Runaway and Homeless Youth Programs

The Children’s Center maintains a 24/7 fully staffed “Hotline” for RHY and those in crisis at: 844-763-8861. This number is accessible, toll-free throughout the proposed service area.

The Children’s Center, Inc. will soon celebrate 145 years servicing a trauma-focused continuum of caring, providing safety, housing, and mentoring for children, youth and families, who are survivors of abandonment, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. It serves the Texas Gulf Coast from Louisiana to Mexico and provides prevention and intervention services through outreach in Mexico and Central America.
