Our School’s Purpose

The Children Center’s Inc. School District’s vision is to inspire a passion for learning and ensure all students succeed by being able to enter a public, private, or vocational education program, gain survival English language skills, and achieve assimilation in the community, equipped with coping strategies.

 

Our mission is to ensure that children who have been traumatized are provided with an alternative, high-quality, comprehensive education to acquire academic, social and emotional skills, focusing on each individual student’s life and academic history.

The standards of our school meet or exceed the State of Texas standards defined by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). In addition, low student to teacher ratios are guarded to allow teachers to have a greater influence and ensure academic success. Class size is a maximum of 16:2 in the core classes but the current average is 8:2. Integrated into each lesson is life applicable skills that teach coping and assimilation in line with the school’s purpose to be a transition campus and to provide an opportunity for students to acquire life skills to be able to enter public, private, or vocational education programs and gain a passion for lifelong learning.

Galveston Multicultural Institute Academy

 

This is a K-12 educational program under The Children’s Center, Inc. The students enrolled in the program are given an academic assessment using formal and informal measures. Students are given work in the core subject areas of English Language Arts, Math, Science, Civics, Technology, Art, Work-Force Preparation, and Integrated Life Skills at their skill level. Academic assessment, mentoring, counseling, career coaching, work-force preparation, student portfolio and educational placement recommendations are part of a comprehensive system utilized to support the emotional, physical, and educational needs of our students.

Bernardo de Galvez Academia

 

The city of Galveston is named after Bernardo de Galvez y Madrid. He was a Spanish military leader who was instrumental in assisting the American Thirteen Colonies in their quest for independence and led Spanish forces against Britain in the Revolutionary War. Our Academy is named for him to honor the richness of the strength and dedication that his contribution made to our community.

 

Bernardo de Galvez Academia, is an educational program of The Children’s Center, Inc. Independent School District founded in June 2015.

Bernardo de Galvez Academia works with youth ages 14 – 21 in a Bilingual Immersion program with a 90/10 formula (90% instruction time in Spanish and 10% instruction time in English in the core subjects) that utilizes differentiated instruction to promote academic advancement in the following core subjects: English Language Arts, Math, Science, Civics, Technology, Art, Work-Force Preparation, and Integrated Life Skills where applicable.

Bernardo de Galvez Academia works with youth ages 14 – 21 in a Bilingual Immersion program with a 90/10 formula (90% instruction time in Spanish and 10% instruction time in English in the core subjects) that utilizes differentiated instruction to promote academic advancement in the following core subjects: English Language Arts, Math, Science, Civics, Technology, Art, Work-Force Preparation, and Integrated Life Skills where applicable. The goal of our program is to academically assess the individual needs of the students through formal and informal testing and to use that information to identify specific skill levels. We will use this information to individualize instruction for small and large group instruction to prepare students to attend private, public, and vocational schools, and to teach survival English language skills for assimilation into the community.
